Merengue and Latin Dance Variety

MAMBO MONDAYS

Next Dates: TBD
Pre-requisite: None
Duration: 6 weeks
Instructors: Shauna Belizéando

Learn to do the Mambo, also known as one of the most popular styles of Latin dancing! Have you always wanted to dance “On2”? Have you always wanted to learn “New York-style Salsa”? For the first time ever, Salsa in the Suburbs is teaching an “On2, New York-style” Mambo Class! While Salsa dancers (On1) are said to be “dancing to the melody” of the music, Mambo dancers (On2) are said to be “dancing to the rhythm” of the music. In this six-week class, you will learn the musicality of WHEN to dance Mambo versus when to dance Salsa. Students will learn through application via shines and partner work!

LATIN DANCE VARIETY CLASS

Next Dates: TBD (Check our Social Dancing Mastery course)
Pre-requisite: None
Duration: 8 weeks
Instructors: Julie Berger

This dimensional class is perfect for those who wish to explore the wonderful world of social dancing and Latin clubs! Over the course of 8 weeks, you’ll learn the basics of three of the most popular dances at the Latin clubs: Cha Cha*, Merengue*, and Bachata*! Cha Cha is a ballroom dance as well as a street dance, therefore it can take on different stylings. Merengue is a simple, fun dance with origins in the Dominican Republic. The simple march tempo is easy to hear and feel, and lends itself to a spontaneous, improvisational style of dance. The music is charming and happy, and often contains clever jokes or puns in Spanish. Our curriculum includes what we believe are the best elements and patterns from both to create an exciting and useful social dance. Bachata is the easiest and sexiest of the Latin nightclub dances! Learn to get close with your dance partner in this sultry dance style that originated in the Dominican Republic! No partner is necessary, as everyone rotates in class!

* Private lessons available for these dances upon request!
