Vinyasa/Flow Yoga – ALL LEVELS

Next Date: TBD

Pre-requisite: None
Instructor: Rebecca Damia

The word Vinyasa comes from the language of Yoga, Sanskrit, and is translated as “placing the body into a yoga pose in an organized way while breathing’. It is a systematized method of Yoga that connects the Breath, Body, and Brain to create Balance of the entire human system. Some people loosely define Vinyasa as Flow or Dance like Yoga because of its fluid like movements. This method of Yoga comes from the Asthanga Yoga System that creates flexibility, firmness, and functionality on all levels of body, mind, and spirit. Everyone Welcome. No Yoga experience required. Come as you are! 🙂

Chakra Yoga

Next Date: TBD

The word “chakra” is Sanskrit for wheel or disk. There are seven basic chakra/energy centers or nerve bundles along the spinal column. Each chakra stimulates different organs and systems in the body. Kundalini yoga (one type of Hatha yoga) studies the chakra system and has developed many exercises specifically to activate these energy centers.

Join us for chakra yoga class as we explore one chakra each week along with our seventh chakra. This is a gentle yoga class with both flowing and stationary elements. While practicing asana (poses, postures) we will focus on those which open and support the chakra we are individually meditating on that particular week. For instance, the first week we’ll explore the root chakra. The color, sound, placement in the body and what it represents for the mind/body/spirit connection is what we’ll discuss at the beginning of class and then our own meditation throughout class while practicing traditional postures as well as postures identified to open up that chakra.

We’ll move on through the rest of the chakras each week including the seventh chakra every week in this series, practicing poses specifically meant to guide energy through that specific chakra.

I’ll introduce the Sanskrit names, as well and during savasana we’ll listen to a reading on which to reflect.

Together we’ll focus our attention to these centers via meditation or visualization during our asana practice as well, as savasana.

These are time slots that have been requested, but are usually not included in our regular business hours. For this reason, we are requiring a minimum of five people to pre-register and commit for all six of these dates no later than Oct. 6th to ensure that we can run this class.
